Writing stories has always been a hobby of mine. When my children were small, they were on folded bit bits of paper, filled with terrible clipart and made on an old printer the size of a small pony - but the kids didn't seem to mind:)
Then, recently, my eldest grandchild picked out a bedtime story; it was one I had written a few years ago. Hearing her shout out some of the words as we turned the pages made my heart flip! I thought: "More of that, please."
So this is the first chapter of my 'CatCow Books' story. I hope your little ones enjoy the series - the first book will be out very soon!
Goose and Scrunch
Goose and Scrunch live on the mainland with their mum and dad, and Jasper the cat.
Goose gets really excited about coming to stay, although that may be down to treats (a granny's prerogative!) as much as the beaches and woods ...
As the girls are still very small, I've made them a bit older in my books - otherwise the stories would be filled with toddler babble, tantrums and demands for chocolate!
However, their unique little characters are already shining through, and guide how the stories unfold.
Where do the stories come from?
Some stories are inspired by old texts and folklore, but most come from simply exploring this beautiful island.
During Covid, we were pretty much stuck on Bute, so I started properly exploring what was right on my doorstep.
I found so many hidden gems along the way—and I still am! From ancient brochs and forts to dolmens and duns, the landscape is full of whispers from a time when magic was still a part of everyday life.
I hope these books will inspire you to roam the places that Goose, Scrunch, and Mimi discover, and perhaps find a little Bute magic of your own.
